Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia)
Male breast reduction plastic surgery is a standard procedure which removes excess skin and fat from a man’s chest caused by gynecomastia. This medical condition is more common than most men think and can be related to an estrogen imbalance or unnatural fat deposits
Gynecomastia – Medical Condition
Many men do not understand that gynecomastia is a medical condition. They spend years dieting and exercising to reduce their chest size. These men are usually unaware that their enlarged chest is caused by a hormone imbalance, puberty, weight changes, or the use of steroids. Often, patients will wear clothes to hide their breasts as they are frustrated and ashamed of their appearance. Male breast reduction plastic surgery is a simple solution which removes excess breast tissue and fat.
Gynecomastia is an enlargement or swelling of breast tissue in males. It is most commonly caused by male estrogen levels that are too high or are out of balance with testosterone levels.
Gynecomastia is most commonly caused by an imbalance between the hormones estrogen and testosterone. Estrogen controls female traits, including breast growth. Testosterone controls male traits, such as muscle mass and body hair. Although each of these hormones produces the usual traits seen in males and females, males produce a small amount of estrogen and females produce a small amount of testosterone. Male estrogen levels that are too high or are out of balance with testosterone levels cause gynecomastia.
In most cases, two complementary procedures are performed to fix gynecomastia. Firstliposuction , followed by controlled fat injections, is performed to increase muscle mass and create a more defined chest. Then, a semilunar incision, bordering the areola, is cut to avoid unnecessary scarring. This allows for us to sculpt an entirely new chest. If there is an excessive amount of skin, fat, and glands to be removed, the incision is expanded as needed. Many patients wish they had received this procedure sooner. The best approach for you will be discussed during your initial consultation
